Why I took a YOGA challenge, and made it OILY.

Hey friends, AND happy summer solstice to you!

Summer has officially arrived for the 2019 season. Don’t you just wish, you could somehow keep that sunshine happy glow all year long? I know I sure do. We are sun chasers. Hands down. I’m happiest in that warm, freeing air, which…. probably explains why we are snowbirds way before our time. To that I say, follow your happy! Being outdoors in the nature, warm and bright is totally our JAM

At any rate. For those of you who follow our instagram feed, ( and if your not, you really should. Shameless plug https://www.instagram.com/the_oily_travelers/) You will notice a few posts of a Yoga challenge. I joined #lole21dayyogachallenge I made a pledge to hit the mat, outdoors as much as possible and take some intentional time for me. Now, i’ve not shared details every single day, nor was I able to hit the mat every single day consecutively. Truth. But i can assure you i've been doing it and loving it! and here’s a few of the reasons why.

Day 19, Wide angle seated forward bend pose. I incorporated JOY essential oil for hormonal balance and self love.

They say it takes 21 days to form a habit. I personally think, it also takes a mindset, but at any rate doing the challenge made me feel accountable to the promise that i made to myself. ( and we all know, thank you Ms Rachel Hollis https://thechicsite.com that we don’t break those! EVER)

I also enjoyed the inspiration and sense of community from others who were also doing the challenge. I was tagged by my dear friend Nicole at Holistic Synergy Coaching who inspires me on the daily. she’s a Yogi, a Reiki Master, and Holistic Nutritionist (totally check her out. DO IT https://www.instagram.com/holisticsynergycoaching/) Wait, are you still with me? I really should start posting links at the bottom of the blog to discourage the “squirrel out”. But hey it’s real. I hope you made it back to me.

Day 4. Mountain Pose. I paired it with a little Valor to balance electrical energies.

Now the THIRD thing, and probably my favourite, is that I made the challenge my own. By incorporating something else that i’m passionate about, My essential oils.

I felt like the two went hand in hand. You see, I use plenty of essential oils for hormonal balance, and emotional support and what i found, was that I was using the yoga as a morning meditation, to set my intentions for the day. It really was a beautiful synergy.

Oil blends like Clarity, EnRGee, and Peace & Calming combined with slow meditative poses, and breathing, have incredible health benefits, but also do wonders for your state of mind.

Single oils like Frankincense, Lavender, Sandalwood and Bergamot all have relaxing, calming properties making them perfect go-to, Yoga oils. So using EO’s ( as they are commonly referred to ) not only benefits the mind and body, but with yoga, the benefits become physical too . Things like stress reduction, lowering blood pressure, increasing Immunity, and even Brain development, while strengthening core and building muscle mass. These are all things that both yoga and Essential Oils are known for.

The addition of essential oils, helps reduce stress and increase focus and concentration through aromatherapy, elevating your sense of centre, to benefit your spiritual connection. There are plenty of studies on the positive effects of essential oils, and I will include a few at the end of the blog. The basics, short and sweet is that aromatherapy works by stimulating smell receptors in the nose, which then sends messages through the nervous system to the limbic system in the brain. That limbic system is that, which controls our emotions. BOOM Happy emotions, happy life.

Now, if this sound like a whole lotta hippy dippy voodoo to you, just trust me and grab yourself a bottle of peppermint or spearmint the next time you head to your mat. Inhale and enjoy your time to refresh and rejuvenate.

I hope perhaps, this encourages you to add a few drops of heavenly goodness to your Yoga. Of course if you use essential oils in your practice, drop a quick comment. Let our readers know i’m not just, the Crazy Oil Lady.

Light and love, and happy yoga-ing!
