An Enchanted Forest. Warsaw, VA
If you ever find yourself in Warsaw VA, have we got a little gem for you!!
Known by locals as the “Enchanted Forest”, this is one, off the beaten path adventures, that you don’t want to miss.
A beautiful hike in the woods, and incredible woodworking by the very talented, local artist, Tom Rhodes.
There are no signs, no directions just a facebook page, was all we could find to track this adventure down.
We counted over 60 wood carvings scattered in the trees. The kids had a blast running from tree to tree, exploring the wonder of the forest. Spread over 11 acres, it is a beautiful display of passion and work of art.
To say Mr. Rhodes is talented is a huge understatement. We learned he actually started by carving golf balls, over 750 golf balls since he started in August of 2001.
Now, there is a small map, which we found conveniently, on our way out. It was under a rock and a piece of wood, in a zip lock bag at the start point. I hesitate to call it an entrance, because well, there really isn’t one. To find this adventure, you are going to have to keep your eyes peeled and detective skills in tip-top shape. To give you an idea, the directions we had were, go into town, turn south onto Wallace St and its down on the left hand side. Gotta love small town directions (right at the big old tree then left at the big rock… lol)
Needless to say, it’s an adventure well worth checking out! Watch for the little wood carvings you can see from the road. Like this one, of Old Saint Nick.
